Ajabdeh Punwar was a believer in hard work and destiny. She was sure this event would be a turnaround for her company. She was grateful to her mother’s employer for his help. But when the call came from “J & P Associates” to fix an appointment her heart skipped a beat. She was aware of the name and reputation, aware of how huge this was for her, and more aware of whom she was going to meet. Pratap Singh Sisodia. The name rang a bell in her mind, as memories of a brief and awkward meeting made her smile. Something told her that he had forgotten all about it. It was time to make a fresh start and make a better impression for the sake of the job. She had done her homework and was all set to impress him.
“Sorry am late.” Ajabdeh jolted from her thoughts and managed to steal a glance at Rukaiya. “The traffic...”
“Are you nervous?” Ajabdeh asked as Rukaiya nodded “A little bit.” “Then I will do the talking. You fumble too much.”
The lady at the reception had nodded at them to follow a butler to the elevators and then the fifteenth floor.
The door of the elevator opened to the automatic glass door of the floor and they were finally led to a wooden door where the name card read “Pratap Singh Sisodia”
With a soft knock the butler let them in and right behind Rukaiya, calming her nerves, Ajabdeh entered the huge office chamber, equipped with a separate glass door room for personal meetings.
“Come in.” He said getting up from his seat and extending his hand to the ladies. He couldn’t help but notice Rukaiya’s hand being incredibly cold.
“Coffee? Tea?” He offered a gesture at them to sit down.
“No thanks.” Ajabdeh smiled, and Rukaiya nodded.
“So Jalal tells me this is your first corporate event?” He asked, extending his hand to take the portfolio file from Rukaiya’s trembling ones. Ajabdeh noticed that and answered, “Yes Sir, but I assure you, we will not let you find any fault in the event.”
“So how to go about it?” He asked turning the pages, where the ideas, themes and looks of various office events were shown.
“Well, you choose a theme and we suggest you the different options in terms of the look. We will take the rest under our care. And you can decide on the menu too... otherwise we will suggest one as well. We will need a guest list for the invites to be sent out, and to check how many vehicles need to be arranged. And an employee’s list to notify them as well.”
“Very well.” He smiled satisfied giving them back the file. “Do the grey and black cocktail theme. We usually host an after-party for employees only. I hope that won’t be a problem?”
“Not at all sir, we will mail you the options tomorrow morning and if you can choose the look by the afternoon we will start working on it tomorrow itself as time is scarce,” Ajabdeh suggested. Rukaiya cleared her throat.
“I ... we would like to see the area of the hall and the roof as well... for the event and party,” Rukaiya suggested as Ajabdeh agreed.
“Very well” Pratap nodded, getting up and buttoning his suit, making the ladies get up as well “You seem comfortable and confident about this. Follow me.” Ajabdeh and Rukaiya exchanged looks. They hadn’t expected him to show them around.

“Come on.” He held the door open for them “We will start with the roof.”
The calm breeze of the rooftop eased Rukaiya’s nerves as Ajabdeh sunk into the breathtaking view. Taking out some measuring tapes from her bag, along with the note app, Rukaiya set to work on the measurements of the rooftop area. Ajabdeh leaned against the pillars of what could become a canopy to sit in and visualised the look of the party.
“So I suppose you can take care of it all and I don’t need to intervene?” Pratap’s voice behind her jolted her as she nodded “Of course sir. Leave it all on us.”
“So I guess I just write the blank pay cheques?” There was a hint of amusement in his voice and a smile at the corner of his lips. Ajabdeh opened her mouth a little awkwardly, her face looked flushed.
“I am done.” Rukaiya walked towards her and smiled “We can leave now.” Ajabdeh nodded in agreement. “I hope you like working with us.” Pratap extended his hand at
Rukaiya before they made their way towards the elevator door and he stood there watching.
