Sounds Like A Plan

Ajabde opened her eyes at a tug at her blanket.
" Mom!" She yelled, eyes still closed." Five minutes."
" It's me Bhago!"
" Uff what is it?"
" Woh... yeh tere haat mein kya hai?"
" Kya?"
" Churiyaan?" She jumped up startled at the words.
" What? How on earth did I sleep with these on?"
" You bought these?" Bhago looked suspicious.
" Yeah I bought these. Look these are yours!" She opened her bag and gave her.
" Ohh no, I have to go give Ranima!"
" You are going nowhere except my place. You are helping me get ready for the sagaai."
" When's the sagaai?"
" Today!!!" Bhago dragged her up.
" Okay okay, let me dress."

She took out an electric blue saari from the wardrobe and teamed it with a black blouse. She checked herself in the mirror.
" Am I fat Bhago?"
" No, you are not, Kisne bola?"
" Aisehi asking."

Chakrapani was getting ready for his engagement and checking on the fittings of his kurta.
" Baojiraj!" He breathed in. " Am so nervous!" All of a sudden Pratap remembered " Specimens" a smile curved his lips.
" Wah, You are looking good." Jaivanta Came in.
"Thank You Ranisa"
" When your wedding is done, find a bride for him too." Chaks smiled at Pratap.
" Ranima don't start!"
" RajKumari na bhi ho must have a golden heart!"
" Ranisa ask him if he likes someone"
" Uff am leaving." Pratap left his mother and friend laughing.

" Uff I don't like mehendi Bhago."
" Shut up and sit quietly!" She reluctantly let the local mehendi man make a small floral design on both her hands.
" I hate this smell."
" Hushh"

In the evening the common lawn of the Employees Quarters was decorated with lights and flowers. People started coming in. At last, the groom's family arrived with Pratap and Ranisa with them.
One girl, another employee's daughter and resident was telling another, " Look the prince! Their families are pretty close, Chaks, Bhagwati and Ram Uncle's too."
" I saw that girl in the car today with him."
" Which girl?"
" Dilli wali!"
" Chal let's see Kunwarsa!"

He was wearing a light blue kurta. She spotted him surrounded by a few girls trying to get away and smiled. Once left alone, she attacked him like Jhasi Ki Rani.
" You! Princy hoke copy karte hui sharm nahi aye!"
" What copy?"
" Blue. I chose Blue!"
" Huh. Copy and tumko? Strange Girl!"
" Arreee am wearing this since morning!"
" How will I know? Was I supposed to follow you or was it on the news?"
"Urgh!"
A waiter interrupted them.
" Wow jalebi! Eeewww Mehendi."
" What?"
" I hate this smell, spoon se can't have Jalebi na!"
He grabbed a plate and offered her a bite. She stared at him and then ate.
" OMG! What will the Surajgarh Chaap think?"
" I don't care!" He copied her tone making her laugh.
Hansa came looking here and there when he quickly ate the last piece pretending the plate was his and he was not feeding anyone but himself.
" Areee that was mine!" Came a soft protest from his side.
" Ajabde! How are you talking to Kunwarsa!" Hansa caught Ajabde off guard.
" Mom?"
" Say sorry right now!"
" Sorry!"
" Kya? Sunai nahi di" He smiled.
" Then look for a hearing aid." She walked off.
" Sorry beta Usko samajh nahi hai!"
" No No mausi. This is 2015, so technically, we are more of a business empire than royals!"

Ajabde went to sit with Bhago.
" Kya hua?"
" Kuch nahi."
The engagement time was here, and they exchanged rings. Jaivanta caught Ajab in a saree for the first time.
" My princess, you look so pretty!"
" Ranima see, mehendi!"
" Hansa, ab toh mehendi par naam likhne ka bhi time aa gaya. She is all grown up!"
" Ji Ranisa."
" What? Ranima. Do you want to get rid of me so soon? Am I that bad?"
" Mera bas chale, I never let you go away from me!" Jaivanta hugged her lovingly. Pratap stared from a distance and smiled. She stuck out her tongue at him, making him chuckle.

Later that night, in a less crowded dinner, Chaks sat with Pratap and Ajabde, who were busy with her two scoops of ice cream with extra everything!
" Baojiraj, I was thinking, let's do a small bachelor's trip this weekend!"
" Ohh Ohh I wana go too!" She startled them. " Weekend nahi Long trip! The whole of Rajasthan!"
" Do you even know what a Bachelor's trip is?" Pratap chuckled.
" Ya I know, I have seen on TV, mujhe jaana hai!"
Bhago came in between the conversation, managing her lehenga,
" Jaana hai? Where?"
" Bachelor's Trip!" Ajabde replied excitedly.
" What?"
" No baby! I meant You are going too, we all are going!" Chaks explained.
" Kyaa?" Pratap asked surprised.
" Yay! Where are we going?" Ajabde cut in.
"Let's ask Ven and the guys!" Pratap suggested.
" Baojiraj leave them, woh kaunsa humare tarah bachpan k dost hai."
" Found It!" Ajabde sprang showing everyone her phone screen.
" Kya?" All asked together.
" Place. Mt. Abu. Hills.Lakes, Perfect!" Bhago and Chaks seemed happy, Pratap got up.
" I need to go book the best resort there. Lakeside cottages. Perfect."
" Stop, ek minute princy!"
" Kya?"
" You are a prince, not us!"
" What?"
" Itne Paise nahi hai!"
" Am paying. As a gift to them!"
" Wah! then book a seven star, khilana jamke, n kanjusi!"
Pratap stared at Bhago. She said, " Ajabde sit quietly now." Pratap leaves.

Neelambargarh

The fort of Neelambargarh was named so because it stood on a cliff above the low-lying plains surrounding it as if it was ready to touch the sky. The fort was surrounded by hilly forestland on three sides and extensive plain lands used for agriculture on another. The road winding up to Neelambargarh was guarded by three gateways and a secret tunnel, known only to the Neelambargarh royal family, led down from the five-storey palace to the river in the forestland. The kingdom of Neelambargarh was known across the land beyond the Heemdevi Mountains for its art and architecture. True indeed, like the myths it held, the stone walls of the fort and the castles shone in the sun like fire swayed by the wind. The gateways had extensive architecture and tales of Neelambargarh’s rich past and kings, engraved in stones, alongside nymphs and the several forms of their chief deity, The Wind, and his tales of miracles. Above the gate in local scriptures was poetry written in honour of the past king

My Everything

Kunwar Pratap stormed into the Mahal at Gogunda. Happy faces of the chieftains and soldiers welcomed him as Rao Ramrakh and Rawatji stopped the ongoing Raj tilak. A visibly scared Kunwar Jagmal looked clueless at a visibly angry Kunwar Pratap. Rani Dheerbai Bhattiyani hadn't expected this son of Mewar to show up that too twenty-one days after his father's death. He was not informed as per Dheerbai's instructions. She looked at Rawat Ji. He must have gone to Raoji at Bijolia. No one except them knew where Kunwar Pratap was staying. It was for the safety of his family. " What are you doing Chotima?" A disappointed voice came. She could stoop down so low? " We were about to inform you..." She spoke up in her defence. " When Dheerbai ji?" Maharani Jaivanta Bai, clad in white entered the hall as people bowed before her. " After your son's coronation?" " I did nothing Badima I swear!" A low voice came from Jagmal. " Maha

All for Love?

Warning: 18+ (Adultery, explicit) S he stepped into his apartment turning the lock as silently as she could. They share keys now, as it’s been a decade since that fateful day her life changed and the talks of marriage have already started in the two families. She has heard from a common friend that he was back from his business trip yesterday and wondered why he hadn’t called her since. It was already afternoon. Maybe he wanted to surprise her again at her office desk with a gift from Singapore, the place of his official visit. So she decided to go to his house in the afternoon and surprise him instead. His parents are off on a vacation and it’s the best plan to meet at his place after not seeing him for a month. She stealthily made her way towards the bedroom door. It was half closed and his giggle could be heard from the corridor. Who was he talking to in such a jolly mood? Maybe some client again. He’s been on the phone all the time ever since he got the promotion. His job h

Destiny

The war was almost won.  A few of Marwar’s soldiers were left on the field along with Rao Maldeo Singh Rathore, their king and leader.  He was thinking of retreating at the end of this day. As his sword clashed with one of the opponent generals as he eyed the opponent King now open and prone to attack. A little hope flickered in his mind as his eyes instructed his closest aide.  The opponent was quite in a winning situation thanks to their new Senapati. He was just 16 yet his bravery and valour reflected his blood and upbringing. He mesmerised the opponents and even Rao Maldeo with his clever war strategies and sword skills. As Maldeo’s aide swung his sword at a taken aback Udai Singh, someone’s sword defended it as his body acted like a shield for the king. He killed the man in one go. “ Ranaji are you okay?” “ Haan Raoji.” He nodded gratefully.  By half the day, the Marwar army had retreated as the air filled with “ Jai Mewar! Jai Eklingji!” From the triumphant soldiers. Rana Udai Si

Unsaid

" Keep the Lehenga in this one, that jewellery in the box." Jaivanta Bai was ordering around. Kunwar Shakti entered with an equally stunned Kunwar Pratap at the scene as the hall turned into a mini market thanks to their mothers. " Kunwar Pratap is here." Dheerbai smiled at the duo as she walked up to them. " Choti ma what are all these?" He asked. " Shagun!"Sajjabai answered excitedly."For Kuwaranisa. She will be blessed with these for the Sagaai. " " What Sagaai ?" "Your engagement , aree , no one told him?" Sajja was surprised. " The four of us are choosing separate gifts of our own choice for your bride, Kunwarsa come and see." Veer Bai urged.   " The sagaai is in three days, followed by the wedding on the seventh, Rajpurohitji had said," Dheerbai spoke up as Pratap stared right at his mother. She seemed happy. " What happened, Kunwar Pratap? Do you have doubts?" Dheerbai smiled sw

Escapades

Ajabde was making a garland out of the marigold flowers in the Rani Baithak. The Princesses and Queens were all there making Preparations for the wedding. Maharani Jaivanta Bai had made sure she assigned everyone one responsibility or the other for Padmavati's wedding. To her, these occasions brought a family together as a unit no matter how many differences they had. Kunwar Pratap and Kunwar Shakti were sent to the market to a vigil on the list of things Sajja had ordered for the wedding. As they entered the Rani Baithak with the sevaks carrying the things, Kunwar Shakti was checking them with the list again while Kunwar Pratap's eyes travelled around the room full of people. His relatives were there too, and so were all those from Sajja's side helping in the wedding, he smiled at them cordially as his search didn't end. Where are you? His Ranima saw his eyes hover as she smiled, calling " Ajabde." She came out of the adjacent room, three garlands in hand. &q

Survival

Ye woh dandal hai ke jisse Tu nikalega mujhko Tu hi rakshak Tu hi sathi mera. "Pishima." Prabhavati applied oil on Sadhana Debi's knees as she spoke "I was wondering, now that the Bouma is here to take care of the house, the Roy Chowdhury mansion will no longer miss Didi." She smiled faintly "After her, things would fall apart… if not for Trilochan da…" Sadhana shook her head. "It's been two days. Don't even compare them to Shubhra." She almost snapped. "Especially that girl." Prabhavati looked up. "She acts like she has been caged. She is always interested more in the outside world of men. That's not a good sign." She shook her head. "There is a saying, Khay day Pakhiti boner dike Akhiti ." Sadhana fussed "She is like that." Prabhavati smiled silently. "Mejo Bouma is educated too, isn't she?" Sadhana looked suspicious. "I bet she will also be pushed to it. You know my mo

Towards You

Kunwar Pratap and Ajabde were friends. He didn't feel awkward sharing his plans and thoughts with her anymore. She was more than happy to advise him on everything. She was happy he listened to her advice before taking or discarding them, be it on what to wear to Padmavati's Sagai or how to befriend the revolting Bhils. He loved the way Ajabde always used metaphors from Puranas and Ramayanas to explain the toughest things so easily. She expressed herself so well, so easily that it amazed him.   The Afghans were now led by Mehmood Shah. They have made secret territories in the forests and waited to attack. Rawatji and his spies had confirmed the news and Udai Singh had warned Mehmood Shah to withdraw his troops from Mewar in vain. Now, it was time they declared war. Mehmood Shah had limited resources in Mewar. And his spies clearly suggested that in no way could he win, especially with Kunwar Pratap leading his troops. He was having second thoughts about the war. One of his aides

In Love??

Ajabde was bedridden over the next few weeks. She was too weak to sit up or do things on her own and the medicine men insisted she needed complete rest to heal. Kunwar Pratap insisted on staying by her side which Ajabde firmly refused. She didn't want to be a distraction from his work. That would break her vow, she said. Kunwar Pratap just smiled knowing she was so adamant and how smartly she convinced people. Ajabde was never bored though! The Queens and Princesses constantly came to check on her and keep her company. All except Dheerbai who only came once, when Ranaji visited her. Ajabde was getting better each day as the Vaid came to check on her and suggested it was time she could start leading a normal life again. Her wound still hurt a little and sometimes she felt dizzy due to the weakness but the Vaid said that too would go in two or three days. Ajabde was a fighter. Jaivanta Bai was proud when the Vaid said that Kunwaranisa had the strongest willpower he had ever seen.   K

Dreams and Wishes

At dawn, the Bhil women took the girls to the Kalika Mata Temple and the Jal Kund. Dressed in white a nervous Heer followed everything Ajabde knew and did, trying to explain the significance of the rituals to her. They prayed to Lord Ganesh. Kunwar Shakti and Kunwar Pratap were staying at Punja Ji's place as they were not supposed to see the brides before the wedding. Ajabde was dressed in her mother's lehenga, a mang tika Jaivanta Bai gave her as a family heirloom and the simple nosering Pratap had gifted. They made their hair into a simple bun with wildflowers before putting on her dupatta. Heer was dressed in traditional Bhil jewellery of silver and beads that the women had gifted her. They made her wear a red and white saree draped as a lehenga and a red chunri with it. She looked like a pretty colourful Bhil bride. Kunwar Shakti was a nervous groom dressed in a traditional bhil dhoti, kurta and cap. The bhil shawl hung from a side, making the white attire colourful. K
